The shortest distance from one point to another may be a straight line, but in the land of One Inch equals 25 Miles strict linearity is never an option....Deane steers his Out of Context ensemble along a meandering, winding path full of twists, turns and sudden surprises. David Prince
For the past seven years the Out of Context Ensemble has explored the challenging world of spontaneous group composition, often called conduction. Using a vocabulary of simple signs and hand gestures which control performance elements such as loud or soft, who performs at a given time, or changes in tempo and rhythm style, this amazing ensemble continues to blur the line between composition and improvisation. Out of Context creates breath-taking music, completely in the moment.
One inch = 25 miles is musical interpretation of Sumner Carnahan's book by the same name. J.A Deane collected and recorded samples of every word of Sumner's book and twisted them into a beautiful musical performance by Out of Context, recorded live at the Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque, NM.
